Laws and Guidelines

Always follow these laws and guidelines when using the internet to be safe and secure whilst online. The Online Safety Bill (the Bill) aims to make the internet a safer place for all users by prohibiting providers of user to user services (ie. social media platforms) from hosting illegal or harmful content. When passed the legislation will mark a milestone in the fight to hold the biggest and most popular providers of social media platforms to account in addition to providers of search engines and generally those companies whose services host user generated content such as images, videos, and comments. Currently, there are a number of pieces of legislation which users may be able to rely on to obtain justice, but these typically require victims of abuse to bring action against the individual posting the online abuse. Three safety and security precautions

1. Always make sure you dont put personal information online unless you know its a trusted source. If somebody asks for your address or phone number etc, always double check. 2.Use an anti virus software. These help stopping viruses get onto your computer. These also help clean your PC as well as stop future viruses that could appear. 3.Dont use the same password for different sites... Using the same password for different sites will help it for hackers to get your information. Never use your birthday,address etc in a password. Try and use a different combination of words/letters/characters for each site you need a password for.

Threats and security performance

Threats that could affect performance to your internet are/ 1. Viruses..Although not as popular as they once was. A virus can end up affecting not only your internet experience it can also affect your pc, tablet or phone as you could you could be sent a pop up or be asked to click on something familiar to you that could send you a virus via the internet. 2. Scams. These can be emails or texts pretending to be a trustworthy company such as Royal Mail or Amazon. It may be a link to say that you have missed a deleivery and asks you to give information such as address or even say you owe money to collect. These scams are quite popular as the scammers can recreate a website easily so you think its the actual website you are on. 3.Downloading Apps etc. You can download apps or software online. These could come from well known sources but these still could contain viruses or bugs that could affect your pc etc but also collect information. How to make wifi work better for you

Ways to improve connectivity and improve browser performance are. 1. Use a faster connection , the higher the mbp (mega bytes per minute) the smoother your connection will be 2. Stop pop-up ads which can slow the performance of the connection. You can use certain programmes to stop ads and you can also stop cookies from being collected which could also slow performance. Most sites will ask you if you want to collect cookies or not. 3. Use a basic search engine. Google is the most cleanest search engine whilst yahoo gives you more in depth search engines like news etc but it depends on the user.

The benefits of Wifi

T he benefits of using Wifi are that it is widely available without needing a broadband connection as some may not have have broadband at home. This could apply to cafes,restaurants,places of interest etc. The Drawback is that it may not be available in some places or some places may not have a good connection and its slow or keeps disconnecting.

The basics of Wifi

For Wifi you will need a laptop, a smart phone or tablet that has the abilities to connect to wi-fi spots. You can also use hotspots which means connecting to another phones wifi but this is more difficult. Most smart phones etc has the albility to have wifi installed into the product.
